Washington DC – Spring Break 2010

Washington DC – Spring Break 2010

I have returned. The last week I spent back east visiting Washington DC, Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown. It was a long week and I am very VERY tired. We left on the 27th fairly early in the morning. The two hour time difference and the long flight meant that leaving early led to us getting there in the late evening. After dealing with the incredibly terrible DC area traffic we made it to the hotel. We went and got dinner before going to the Jefferson Memorial. We tried to get to the Lincoln Memorial as well, but couldn’t get over there.

Over the next several days, we did a lot of stuff in our nation’s capitol. We went up the Washington Monument. We visited many of the museums at the Smithsonian where I saw a bunch of fossils, The ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz. I also saw THE Star Spangled Banner (as in the one that was seen for the anthem). There was a bunch of cool stuff in the museums.

We also went to Mt. Vernon, and toured Washington’s house. That was pretty neat. Kris lined up a bunch of tours through our representative  Jim Matheson. We did get to meet him later in the week. He was a pretty nice dude.

Other tours included the White House (which is OLD), the Pentagon (Which was friggin awesome), and the Capital Building (Which I spent most of the time ogling the cute tour guide/intern). Toward the end of the week Kris and Kayla went off to Pennsylvania to visit family and my mom and I went south to the Williamsburg area.

Williamsburg was the biggest rip off I have ever seen. No joke. Jamestown and Yorktown were bother really interesting however. Around this time we went to 5 Guys… WORST BURGER EVER! No even kidding. I don’t think I will EVER go back to one again.

And that all led to us coming home. We were delayed getting on the plane to begin with. After we all finally got on, we were just ready to take off when the plan pulled off the runway. The captain came on and said someone had been very sick in the rear bathroom and we had to return to the gate. Like an hour and a half later we were finally taking off. The lady I was stuck sitting next to for this entire thing had some serious issues. She had like a twitch which led to her constantly elbowing me in the side. And she sat so it was impossible for me to sit back in the seat properly (I being a fairly large, wide shouldered man in a very small narrow airplane seat). It was TERRIBLE. Then the onboard Satellite cut out JUST as The Italian Job was starting on FX. It was a sad sad day. But we finally got home. And now I need to clean up my room and bathroom and deal with school again. LAME.

But it was a good trip anyway.
